Hi there.
I live in Australia and have been trained in LA style (on 1)salsa for a few years, currently training in Sydney Latin Motion (Oliver Pinedas dance school )and with advanced dance partners who perform and compete in salsa.
I'm visiting Helsinki in July- Aug. and was hoping that I could continue training while visiting there.
If anyone could point me in the right direction ,that would be greately appreciated..I look forward to experiencing the Salsa sceene in Finland and Europe.

Helsinki currently has one dance school where it's possible to take LA-style lessons. Given that the overall level of on1 dancing is much lower in Helsinki than elswhere in Europe (and probably also in Australia), my guess is that you would not find these lessons worth while

If you are interested in brushing up on solo steps, taking afro-cuban lessons such as rumba or trying cuban style salsa, you will find a lot more options. There are at least two dance schools in Helsinki which offer a wide variety of lessons (Baila Baila and Tradicion Viva, I'm not sure if Salsa de Cuba still offers lessons in Helsinki).

Thank you for the reply.Sounds like I'm better off, with doing some rumba classes there. Still it would be nice to get in contact with people that do LA , in Helsinki .

July is the main holiday month here and the salsa "scene" might be dead. So looking into the most exotic Finnish ballroom social dancing 'lavatanssit' might be an interesting thing for you to try. I can help with that too and you can join in when I go.

It's only 2-3 hours by train. Probably 50% of Helsinki's active LA dancers go there.

Also, I recommend you'll write again to this forum when you're coming.
I bet many LA dancers such as my self will start drooling when we think we might have a chance to dance with you

We just had the yearly Salsa congress here in Sydney and the Bachata festival is coming up next
...hehe..drooling. As long as it's not on me...lol..

Yes, it would be great to swap info and see the 'lavatassi' sceene in Finland , although I'm not much of a ballroom enthusiast. I do have friends that perform and teach ballroom. Some have tried to convert me , but it has ended up, with them lately dancing salsa and bachata with me ..lol..

I don't know how old is this messages going on in this webs, but I want to welcome you to Finland, I am living in Tampere.
LA-Style in Finland in general is not so popular as other countries in Europe, but in Helsinki you will find couple of good dancers for sure, I am teaching LA-style almost 4 years around Finland, now if you want to dance in a party then the situation is different, at the time you will be here is Holidays so people want to enjoy the sun and usually many salsa people goes somewhere else, but if you are lucky you will for sure get a party maybe on Wednesday or Friday night in a restaurant close to the railway station.
